We take patient confidentiality very seriously and maintain strict anonymity throughout the donation process and afterward.” — Dr. Fady Sharara, Medical Director & Founder

The Egg Donation Process for Donors

From initial screening to gentle retrieval — here is exactly what to expect:

Our Virginia fertility center begins the egg donation process with a simple online screening application. After reviewing a donor's application, our office will email the candidate if she meets our basic age, health, and availability requirements.

She will then need to complete a more comprehensive application that includes questions about her personal, reproductive, and family health history. We reach out to schedule an in-person orientation appointment once she completes this second application, and the medical process proceeds through the following structured milestones:

1

Initial Consultation & Nurse Orientation

Our experienced fertility nurses ask follow-up questions, thoroughly explain the egg donation process, review medications and timelines, and schedule medical appointments. Some of these appointments must take place during specific stages of the potential egg donor's menstrual cycle.

2

Comprehensive Medical & Psychological Evaluations

The egg donor undergoes a complete medical exam, including an ovarian reserve evaluation (anti-Müllerian hormone / AMH blood test), infectious disease testing, genetic carrier screening, and a confidential consultation with a licensed reproductive psychologist.

3

Medically Cleared & Confidential Donor Matching

Once a donor has been medically cleared, we provide non-identifying information about her health, ethnicity, physical attributes, education, personality, and personal interests to hopeful parents who are seeking a donor in our confidential database.

4

Personalized Ovarian Stimulation

We use a delicate, individualized balance of fertility medications to stimulate the donor's ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs during one cycle. We monitor the donor carefully with regular ultrasounds and bloodwork to ensure she is responding safely and her eggs are maturing optimally.

5

Ultrasound-Guided Egg Retrieval

When her eggs are mature, we schedule the egg retrieval. The donor is placed under gentle IV sedation, and Dr. Sharara uses a hollow needle guided by transvaginal ultrasound to gently aspirate the follicular fluid and retrieve her eggs. The procedure takes only 15–20 minutes.

6

Same-Day Recovery & Donor Compensation

The donor rests in our private recovery suite for about 45–60 minutes and goes home the same day with a companion. Donors typically resume normal daily routines within 24 to 48 hours and receive their financial compensation immediately following retrieval.

A Safe, Rewarding Decision for Donors

Every clinical protocol is engineered to safeguard your current comfort and future fertility.

100% Strict Anonymity

We maintain rigorous confidentiality throughout the donation process and afterward. Intended parents receive only non-identifying medical and personal profile information.

Protection of Future Fertility

Egg donation utilizes eggs that would naturally degenerate in a single menstrual cycle. The process does not deplete your egg reserve or affect your ability to have children in the future.

Zero Out-of-Pocket Expenses

Intended parents cover 100% of all medical visits, lab tests, medications, monitoring, and dedicated donor medical insurance. In addition, donors receive generous financial compensation.

Direct Physician Oversight

All monitoring ultrasounds and procedures are personally overseen by Dr. Fady Sharara, ensuring continuous medical excellence and individualized dosing.
