IVF Refund Plan

Dr. Fady Sharara and the staff at our Virginia fertility center not only offer patients IVF success rates that consistently fall above national averages, but we also offer a unique 100% IVF Refund Plan. We realize that IVF procedures can be expensive, especially if you do not have insurance coverage. In view of the financial hardship that so many patients face, we offer our refund plan to patients who do not have insurance coverage (approximately 70% of our patients under age 38).

The IVF refund plan states that if patients do not achieve a live birth after the transfer of all embryos resulting from their cycles, 100% of clinical fees will be refunded back to the patients to use in pursuing other family-building measures such as donor egg or adoption.

Our high success rates give us the confidence to provide this refund plan. The vast majority of patients conceive on their first or second attempt, and it is extremely unusual for patients to exceed three cycles before achieving success.

Our Virginia fertility center exclusively performs embryo transfers five days after egg retrieval at the blastocyst stage, which results in significantly higher pregnancy rates than Day 3 embryo transfers. In 2013, VCRM stopped performing less effective Day 3 transfers.

• Under Age 40: Most patients have 1 or 2 blastocysts transferred.
• Over Age 40: Patients may have up to 3 blastocysts transferred.
• With PGT Genetic Testing: 90% of patients receive a single embryo transfer (eSET), virtually eliminating multiple pregnancy risks while maintaining top success rates.

Patients who do not qualify for the refund plan or who choose standard fee-for-service care utilize our traditional IVF fee options:

• Fresh IVF Cycles: Consist of transferring embryos five days after egg retrieval at the blastocyst stage.
• Frozen Embryo Transfers (FET): Involve transferring embryos that patients have cryopreserved for future use. Almost 40% of our IVF patients have additional embryos frozen and stored for future siblings or subsequent cycles.

Effective 10/01/00, Maryland Insurance Article Section 15-810 "Benefits for In Vitro Fertilization" mandates that health insurance policies issued within Maryland providing pregnancy benefits must also cover IVF costs. Key provisions include:

• Coverage & Subscribers: Patient must be a policyholder, subscriber, or covered spouse of subscriber.
• Benefit Cap: Up to 3 IVF attempts per live birth, up to a lifetime maximum of $100,000.
• Medical Criteria: At least a 5-year history of infertility, OR infertility associated with endometriosis, fetal DES exposure, blocked fallopian tubes, or male factor infertility.
• Exemptions: Small businesses with 50 or fewer employees and religious organizations prohibiting IVF may be exempt.
