Alicia Wood’s Story

After battling endometriosis, PCOS, miscarriage, and a 6-month waitlist in Oklahoma, Alicia & Brady connected with Dr. Sharara for embryo adoption and welcomed baby Ellis.

I’m one of those girls who always knew I wanted to be a mom. I dreamed of rubbing my big belly, feeling every kick, waiting in line at elementary school pickup, and planning after-school snacks.

Endometriosis, Miscarriage, and PCOS

At 24, after dealing with debilitating periods, I was diagnosed with endometriosis. The news felt devastating, like my dreams of carrying a pregnancy were crushed. Years later, I met my husband Brady on Match.com. One of the first things that drew me to him was how deeply he valued family.

We married and started trying right away. Six months in, we were ecstatic to see two lines on a pregnancy test, but just weeks later, we suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage. Soon after, testing at a clinic in Oklahoma revealed PCOS as well. After multiple failed drug cycles, we were labeled 'infertile'.

Turn to Embryo Adoption

That's when we discovered embryo adoption! Using embryos from couples who had completed their families felt like the perfect road for us, both physically and emotionally. But after being stuck at #4 on a local waitlist for almost 6 months, we decided to search nationwide.

We reached out to VCRM in Reston, Virginia, and were blown away by how warm and responsive the staff were. On April 19th, we had a Skype call with Dr. Sharara and just knew he was the doctor who would make our dreams come true!

Transfer Day and Joyful News

“Dr. Sharara dots his I’s and crosses his T’s. He conducted thorough testing to ensure we were best set for success. His staff cheered me on through every question and test result.”

On June 19th—exactly 2 months after our first call with Dr. Sharara—I arrived at VCRM for transfer day. Seeing the photo of our embryos was priceless. A few hours after my first blood draw back home, Nurse Jessica called in an excited whisper: “Alicia, you’re pregnant!!!”

“Dr. Sharara and his staff gave us our dream. Walking into our son’s nursery—a room I once questioned would ever hold a crib—I am filled with endless gratitude for VCRM!”
